Star Wars Celebration V: I can Pretend I Was There

From Thursday, August 12 to Sunday August 15, there was a huge Star Wars convention. Star Wars Celebration V was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Unfortunately, just like anyone reading this post, I was not there. But from what I have heard, it turned out to be quite the event so I thought I would try to pull together any information, videos, interviews, and links I can find in an attempt to create the experience of what it must have been like to be there.

Star Wars celebrities who appeared at Celebration V to sign autographs included Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Jeremy Bolluch (Boba Fett), Ray Park (Darth Maul), Ben Burt (Sound Designer), and George Lucas.

For the “Main Event” of Celebration V, The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart hosted an on stage interview with “The Maker” himself George Lucas. Also during this event, Lucas was reunited with Mark Hamil (Luke) and Carrie Fisher (Leia) and the big announcement was made that all six Star Wars movies will be released on Blu-Ray next year.

There was also a big event held at the Disney World Hollywood Studios park. The “Last Tour to Endor” allowed visitors one last chance to ride the “Star Tours” attraction (my favorite ride ever!) before it was closed down to be revamped.  The event also included Star Wars themed shows, parties, and a fireworks display.

Other highlights of the show included The 501st organization’s TK Project in which stormtrooper helmets, custom decorated by various artisits and celebrities, were auctioned off for charity. They raised $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They also had an art exhibit featuring never before seen artwork by legendary Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. There were also trivia contests, a laser tag competition against costumed stormtroopers, and even Star Wars Speed Dating.

Here I have put together a list of as many related links, videos, and interviews I could find from sources including Starwars.com, TheForce.net, and Rebelscum.com. Enjoy!

I’m a husband, web programmer, and big time Star Wars fan. I’m addicted to social media and I enjoy reading sci-fi, watching action movies, listening to country music, and playing the occasional video game.
