Star Wars: The Clone Wars

I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on the new Star Wars TV show, The Clone Wars. I’ll start off by saying that I think the show is fabulous. What could be better than a mini Star Wars movie every week?

The show is action packed, and the characters are better developed than they were in some of the prequel films. The Yoda we know and love from Empire is back (he does his famous giggle that we haven’t heard in 25 years!), and they have finally made Anakin into a likable character (no angry teenager). There are also lots of nods to the Original Trilogy. Although, it’s presented in a different format than what we Star Wars fans are used to seeing, I think the animation is very well done, so you kind of forget it’s a cartoon. And I’m finding as the series progresses, the stories are getting better and better.

Obviously, there are people who will be reluctant to watch it right off the bat for the simple reason that it’s a cartoon show. If it’s a cartoon show, it must be meant for kids. Granted, there are elements geared towards a younger audience (idiotic battle droids and a few cheesy nicknames: “Skyguy”, “Snipps”). However there is also a lot for the older Star Wars fans to enjoy. Keep in mind that this is a war show, so there are lots of cool battles and lightsaber fights! For a cartoon show, it’s pretty violent. You see clone troopers get shot in the head, eaten by giant slugs, and ejected into space. One of them even swears, not exactly stuff you’d want your two or three year old to watch.

Another reason people might be turned off to the series is the fact that the Clone Wars movie that came out over the summer got horrible reviews. Personally, I thought the movie was good. What killed it was the fact that because it was released as a movie, people were expecting it to be as good as the rest of the Star Wars films. However, they made the movie as an after thought; it’s essentially the pilot episode of the series. If it were released on TV, the backlash probably wouldn’t have happened. The series itself has gotten great reviews, and its premiere was the most watched series premiere in Cartoon Network’s history: The Clone Wars A Hit on Cartoon Network

The movie was good, the series is better!

So, are you in? You can catch the show on Friday nights on Cartoon Network. At 8:30 they show the episode from the previous week, followed by a new episode at 9:00.

If you don’t have Cartoon Network, you can watch the most recent episodes at (For the next couple of weeks or so they will actually have all the episodes available). You can also download all of the episodes from iTunes for $1.99 each. The Clone Wars movie is now available on DVD.

If you are still reluctant, at least give the show a chance and watch these stand out episodes:
Episode 1: Ambush
Episode 5: Rookies
Episode 9: Cloak of Darkness
Episode 10: Lair of Grievous
Episode 15: Trespass
Episode 22: Hostage Crisis

May the Force Be with You!!

I’m a husband, web programmer, and big time Star Wars fan. I’m addicted to social media and I enjoy reading sci-fi, watching action movies, listening to country music, and playing the occasional video game.
